Spring is here! As we prepare to plant, grow, and harvest crops from farms and gardens in both rural and urban areas, preparation is important. We need to learn as much about the soil in which we grow our crops as possible. Information about soil types can be found in the Web Soil Survey found at http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov
Soil samples of at least two cups taken from various sections of areas you plan to crop. Madison County farmers and gardeners can get up to ten (10) free samples sent to the University of Kentucky to determine proper amounts and kinds of nutrients to grow your crops. These are paid for compliments of the Conservation District and County Extension District Board. Follow up questions on soil sampling can be made by calling 859-623-4072.
